Mid-Winter Fun in San Diego!

It’s February, and while most of America shivers under a blanket of snow, San Diego is hovering around a comfortable 70 degrees.  This is perfect weather to go outside and explore a beautiful coastal community.  Mission Bay is the perfect place to start your adventuring, since it’s at the heart of it all.

If you need more to do than relaxing on the beach or strolling along the boardwalk, well you’re in luck this week; San Diego has kid-friendly outings as well as some grown-up fun.  Here are a few activities going on to keep you smiling…

Music in the Museum
Known for its scientific exhibits and stunning IMAX movies, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center will kick off it’s second annual Rock in the Park evening concert series on February 20t .   Grab a drink and some food from Wild Thyme Café inside the spacious lobby while you enjoy the old school Southern Californian band, Venice.  Venice has a  sound that is a mix of classic rock, soul and folk music.  The band counts David Crosby and Roger Waters as long-time fans.  This grown-up musical series (all concerts are 21+) runs through May and tickets start at $24 each.

Happy New Year!
According to the Chinese calendar, 2015 is the Year of the Ram, which means it will be a great year to relax and travel.  February 19th marks the start of the Chinese New Year and the beginning of the Year of the Ram, also called the year of the Sheep or Goat.  San Diego is going to celebrate with a free celebration downtown (Third Ave and J Street) on Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd.  This is the city’s 33rd year hosting the Chinese New Year Food &Cultural Fair and the fun starts at 10 AM with activities drawing to a close at 5 PM.  The festival will be filled with lively musical and dance performances on stage, lion and dragon dancers winding down the street, educational crafts and food booths.  This will truly be an unforgettable weekend!

Family Fun at Sea
On February 22nd you can spend a day pretending you’re on the open waters on a historic ship during the Maritime Museum Family Day.  For every paying adult, enjoy free admission for two children ages 12 and under.  Spend the day exploring the different ships and kid crafts will be available from 11AM to 3 PM.  Let your imagination run free as you explore sailing ships, steam-powered boats and submarines and the best part yet, no sea legs required.
